Foraging Bridge

The St. Mary’s Foraging Bridge

I wanted this bridge to outlast me; after all, it has been designed for a food forest, a place planning for the generations, not the years. Stains, paint, and pressure-treated were out, as nothing could compromise the wellness of that around it: cedar was chosen. Left untreated, this bridge will harden and patina, and during that time, this phenomena will proceed in tandem with the growth of a flourishing food forest.

Decking for the bridge was completed upside-down — an approach that protects the wood from excessive rot at screw locations.

Replaceable members are easily-accessible and affixed using removable fasteners. Untreated wood can be reused unlike its treated counterparts.
